You’ll find fun for the whole family at Houston Nature Center and Trailhead Park! The Nature Center is home to visitor information, hands-on nature displays, clean restrooms and showers. Stop in to see our live observation bee hive and discover the wonders of this very social and important pollinator. Our 17 acre native prairie and wetland planting is maturing nicely and has something of interest in all seasons. The picnic shelter, set among native tree species, is a nice place for a family picnic and can also be rented for reunions or birthday parties! Take advantage of the newly installed wooden observation decks and walkways to get up close and personal with the life living in and on the pond. If you happen to visit on a summer Wednesday – consider sticking around for music in the bandshell. Other park features include: ample parking and access to the Root River Trail System, a Natural Playground, Houston’s Community Garden, and sites for tent camping.
