A fun family event to increase understanding, appreciation and respect for these intriguing creatures. Important things to know for safe exploration of the blufflands. Admission fees: Children < 4 years and Friends of Houston Nature Center (dues current) free, 4-15 years $4, 16 and over $7.

10:00 Live Snake Program – Jim Gerholdt, retired Reptile Keeper for MN Zoological Garden, author, and public speaker (The Remarkable Reptiles)
10:00-11:15 FIELD TRIP TO SNAKE DEN/HABITAT – DNR and private land owner (Pre-registration & payment required. Minimum age 13 years. Limited to 20 participants. FILLED (9/10/18) all spots spoken for .
11:00-3:00 Snake-themed Kids’ Crafts (included in admission)
11:30 “Rattlesnake Responders: A regional program for snake relocation” – Stephen Winter, Winona County Responder
12:00 Lunch on your own/visit vendors/crafts and snacks
1:00 “When a Timber Bites: Timber Rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus) Envenomation” – Dr. Dan Keyler, Featured Speaker, is a Toxicologist, Research Herpetologist and an international consultant on venomous bites of all sorts.
2:00 “What It’s Like to be Bitten by a Timber Rattler” – Marty Ambuehl, a local bite survivor
3:00 Live Snake Program – Jim Gerholdt (second chance to hear program – see above…)
