City of Houston Arbor Day Ceremony and Plantings
Saturday, April 22nd at 10:00 we will be meeting at the Picnic Shelter for a brief history of Arbor Day and then head out to plant 50 shrubs and 5 spruce trees as part of our enhanced Quail and other bird habitat project. The shrubs are ones that produce soft fruit for birds to eat: Juneberry (Amelanchier), Nannyberry (Viburnum lentago), and Highbush Cranberry Viburnum (Viburnum trilobum).
Shrub Pruning Lesson and Work Day
Saturday, April 29th at 1:00 we will start with a lesson on sharpening tools (hand pruners and loppers) in the Meeting Room. We’ll then have a lesson on shrub pruning and then head outdoors to tackle the droves of overgrown shrubs in Trailhead Park. Only $6 per person for both sharpening and pruning classes – but individuals participating in our work session will have their fee waived. Bring your tools from home to sharpen and use.
